Ernie Frantz founded the APF in Aurora, IL, just 40 miles west of Chicago and has run meets in the Chicago-area for over 20 years. The APF also offers a drug tested venue with the Amateur American Powerlifting Federation or AAPF. They also offer the affliation with the pretigious International Powerlifting Federation, the biggest interational powerlifting federation. NASA, started by Rich Peters, runs drug tested meets in the Chicago-area, in Illinois, and around the country. They run the traditional powerlifting and bench press meets as well as their own unique "power sports" division. While not a federation, BenchAmerica has had successful invitation-only bench press meets both at the National and World levels. The meets are professional (paid) meets and have been televised on Fox Sports Net. |

midwest for his SLP federation. He runs a number of meets at

The APC runs non-tested contests and the UAPC runs tested
contests. Their international arms are the Global Powerlifting
Committee and the Amateur World Powerlifting Committee. The

Powerlifting started in the AAU but had to leave the AAU in 1981 as a result of the Amateur Sports Act of 1978. Powerlifting was restarted in the AAU in 1995.
