History:
In the fall of 2005, Maris Sternberg proposed that at the annual State
Championships, that the APF Executive Committee award Lifters of the
Year for Illinois. These awards follow the tradition set by Ernie
Frantz in the early days of Illinois Powerlifting, when still
associated with the AAU, the CENAR Award (or Central AAU) was given
annually to the top male and female lifters in the State/area.
Nomination/Voting:
At
the end of each calender year, the APF Executive Committee nominates,
and then votes on the top male, female and teenager lifters in
Illinois, as well as the top powerlifting team in Illinois. The
winners are then announced at the Illinois State Championship
meet.
The winners each year are awarded based on their performance in the
previous calender year. The EC nominates and votes on the
canidates
based on their performance in APF meets, with special attention paid to
the previous year's State Meet, National and World competitions in the
APF/WPC, as well as their breaking of Illinois State, American and
World Records.
Purpose:
The Lifter
of the Year awards are centered on promoting Illinois lifters and
Illinois powerlifting as a whole. The EC aims to give back to the
lifters of Illinois like no other state in the APF. Currently, no
other state in the APF gives out annual awards to their lifters.
The
EC wants to promote Illinois powerlifting, and award the performances
of its lifters and local and National/World competitions within the
APF/WPC. |
