UHD Powerlifting is seriously committed to becoming one of the premier collegiate powerlifting programs in the nation. In order to achieve this goal, our members--and the team collectively--embrace the following principles:
1. A commitment to competitive POWERLIFTING (i.e., the squat, the bench press, the deadlift . . . contested in combination or singly). We do not train for strongman, Olympic weightlifting, or bodybuilding. We are powerlifters.
2. A commitment to excel at single-ply geared lifting. We train in single-ply gear only, and we compete in single-ply federations (or those that offer single-ply divisions) only. We do not compete in raw meets or divisions.
3. A commitment to compete only in drug-tested competitions. We do not enter competitions that are not drug tested.
4. A commitment to support only major powerlifting federations (that offer single-ply competition and drug testing). We do not participate in unsanctioned, "backyard" meets.
5. A commitment to enter only significant meets and seek out the best competition. We typically compete in regional and national meets whenever possible, with the aim of qualifying for world meets. Unlike some teams, we do not limit our competitive horizons to local meets or only those that are within a three or four hour drive. To be the best, we need to compete against the best. This commitment requires money, but we will steadfastly carry out the necessary fundraising to fulfill this commitment.
6. A commitment to be our best not only on the platform and in training, but also in the classroom and in life. Each of our members is an ambassador of UHD Powerlifting and the University of Houston-Downtown. Thus, our members conduct themselves in exemplary fashion at all times, always remembering the dictum "make good decisions." In the classroom, our members strive to achieve their best just as they do in training or in competition. _________________ DL: 727.5 - BP: 700.8
